Schedule:
The following is a two-day schedule that we have found to be highly efficient and effective. This
may be modified to meet the specific needs of each medical facility.
Day One:
A 4-hour workshop for medical professionals: Workshop participants are guided through free writing
and acting exercises that serve as tools to process the experience and challenges of working as a medical professional. This workshop focuses on team building and developing deeper understanding amongst
colleagues. No prior writing experience
is necessary. The number and selection of participants are determined by
the medical center’s goals and needs. Suggested number of participants: 20.
Two facilitators required.
Day Two
A four-hour workshop for cancer patients/survivors and their loved ones: Workshop participants are guided through free writing and acting exercises that serve as tools to process
the experience of living with cancer. No
prior writing or performance experience is necessary. The number and selection
of participants are determined by the medical facility’s goals and needs. Suggested number of participants: 20. Two facilitators are required.
- 9-1pm: 4-hour LMP workshop with patients, their friends and family members.
Performance
Options:
-
Option
A: A
reading of edited segments of the writings for those who wish to participate. For
those who do not wish to participate, their segment may be included (anonymously or not) in a printed playbill that will be
given to the attending audience at the reading.
-
Option
B: A
collection of the edited segments will be offered to the medical center for printing and distribution of a booklet that can
be shared in-house &/or with the patients they serve.
-
Option
C: A
compilation of inspiring and uplifting quotes from the participant’s writings that can be distributed by the medical
facility.
These workshops and subsequent readings
or publications are designed to enhance constructive dialogue, understanding, and compassion as well as improve workplace
relations and patient care. The sessions will consist of writing exercises, sharing
with the group, word play and simple acting exercises. Confidentiality and discretion are emphasized. These sessions are supervised and led by The Life Monologue Project’s (LMP) trained facilitators.
After the workshop if the participants choose to share their writing publicly (anonymously, if
preferred) LMP will assist the medical center in a short program of readings that can be open to friends and family, the general
public, or remain in-house. If a reading is not desired, LMP will assist in editing
inspirational segments from the writings or short, powerful excerpts to be compiled and distributed as deemed appropriate
by the medical center. These compilations can be given to patients and their
loved ones to support them in facing the emotional and psychological aspects of coping with illness.
